In a recent study, Dr. Tamrazi’s group has shown that biopsy of solid lung nodules that are generally considered too small to sample can indeed provide sufficient sample for pathology and even for identifying one or more molecular markers.
Dr. Tamrazi achieved almost 98% diagnostic accuracy for biopsy of lung nodules that are extremely small (<1.5 cms) and considered very difficult to sample (Cancer Treatment and Research Communications, 2022).
90% of the samples in that cohort contained sufficient biopsy material for at least one or more molecular markers that helped to provide the oncologist with more targeted options.
Obtaining ample tumor tissue with precision biopsy was important for deciding on treatment options without the need for repeat biopsies.
This study included retrospective Sequoia Hospital patient data during a period spanning 2015-2020. It showed a higher 3-year survival rate for our patients, even in Stage IV lung cancer, compared to other centers.
